FutureCare Health & Management Corporation Promotes Dr. Fatima Sheikh to Chief Medical Officer
She will oversee the medical team in fifteen FutureCare skilled-nursing and long-term care facilities in the Baltimore and Washington area
PASADENA, MD -- FutureCare Health & Management Corporation, Maryland's premier rehabilitation and skilled nursing provider, announced the promotion of Dr. Fatima Sheikh to Chief Medical Officer (CMO). In this new role, Dr. Sheikh will oversee the medical team in fifteen FutureCare facilities in the greater Baltimore and Washington, D.C. region.
Dr. Fatima Sheikh is a seasoned medical professional, most recently serving as the Medical Director of the FutureCare Capital Region and NorthPoint facilities. Her experience in nursing facilities has equipped her with an understanding of the regulatory environment within this industry and an appreciation of this environment's uniqueness with respect to its patient population and prevalence of different medical conditions as compared to hospitals and other communities.
"In this new role as Chief Medical Officer, I'll be able to oversee and improve healthcare for older adults by focusing on quality of care, end-of-life care, and care transitions. I'm excited to have this opportunity to make a larger impact and improve the lives of so many individuals," says Dr. Sheikh.
Dr. Sheikh's medical experience extends beyond FutureCare, as she was trained at Johns Hopkins School of Medicine in Geriatrics, and currently holds a part-time faculty position as assistant professor with the Geriatric Medicine Department at Johns Hopkins School of Medicine. Due to Dr. Sheikh's unique position as a leader of her facilities and as an educator of learners from Johns Hopkins School of Medicine and of other disciplines in her nursing facilities (including physicians, nurse practitioners, nurses, and social workers alike), she hopes to influence the current and future thinking of medical professionals by helping to shape and change their practices to create a better healthcare model for our geriatric population.
"We could not have selected a better person to fill this role than Dr. Fatima Sheikh, with her extensive background in the field and her passion for older adults and their care. At FutureCare, we have a singular focus on excellence and Dr. Sheikh shares that vision with us. She has proven her leadership skills over several years at the company and we are honored to have her representing us as our new CMO," said President and CEO of FutureCare Health & Management Corporation Gary Attman.
In 2017, Dr. Sheikh was a recipient of the American Geriatric Society Clinician of the Year award for her clinical work, mentorship of her inter-professional team and learners from Johns Hopkins School of Medicine, and efforts to improve care transitions for older adults.
